During our sailing adventure in the Caribbean Islands is where it all began. While we were retired so to speak from our former careers on land, we weren't really retired from life aboard a moving vessel with two young children. Randall was continually busy with the constant boat work of maintenance and repairs, while I was busy home schooling our two young elementary school age children at the time. But, in between our newly acquired commitments and chosen life style, I uncovered a hidden passion. My desire to create pieces of art came to life. Whether it be bowls carved and hand painted from calabash, a fruit from trees on the islands, gathering and identifying sea shells with my daughter or admiring and buying beads and pearls from Margarita. I just found myself gravitating to the arts. Playing with some of these collections of beads, shells and assortments, I attempted to make necklaces. With Randall's mechanical know how applied to my artistic design desires, together we collaborated some interesting pieces as novices. As the collection of natural shells, beads, coral, turquoise, semiprecious stones and pearls from the islands and boutiques grew, so did my repertoire of necklaces. My confidence and abilities flourished, as other cruisers interest in my work appeared and other bead designers pointed me in the right direction. Realizing that I did not need to wear all of these pieces myself, I still wanted to create more! Cindy's necklaces were now for sale on Duchesse, our 472 Catana catamaran, in the islands of the Caribbean. Thank you to all of you who ignited my desire in the beginning. May happiness come to you!
In the fall of 2001, our family of 4 decided to make some changes in our lives. With Randalls love of adventure, challenge, and a desire to go sailing along with my need to spend more quality time as a family unit, we wanted to head in a new direction. Our new goal was to sell it all, buy a sail boat and go cruising together as a family. At the end of the school year in 2002, we signed our kids out of public school to begin home schooling in August. By mid summer of 2002 the house was sold, we quit our jobs, and in October found our new home, a 47 foot Catana Catamaran named DUCHESSE. We went cruising for 4 1/2 years in the islands of the Bahamas and kept going! Off through the Caribbean we went spending some extended time in Venezuela and Columbia. Later, we decided to sell Duchesse. We next traveled to Argentina and other surrounding countries. Most recently we drove from Hershey PA to Puerto Vallarta
for a 4 month stay and then drove up to Montana for a 2 month stay. All the time we are visiting with friends and family along the way. This past October we made our way back down to Puerto Vallarta.
